Duck in the Dining room!

(The owner speaks!)

Well, it used to be a dining room!

The pen was created out of four mesh panels joined at the corners with wire and we just untwist one of the wires to open the pen.

With one duckling the easiest option for keeping it clean in there seemed to be to put plastic on the floor under the pen and then use old sheets (changed once a day and thrown in the washing machine) for the bedding. I don't know whether this would stay dry enough for more than one duckling but it worked fine for Sheldon on her own! There are trays under the paint roller tray paddling pool and drinker to catch the inevitable water spillages and the big paddling pool is used as a barrier to protect the sideboard from splashes.

When I go to see her, Sheldon then runs out of the pen and follows me over to a sheet on the floor where she likes nothing better than to sit on my lap (her favourite place) and preen herself. (I recommend putting an old towel on your lap for this bit as ducks can't be house trained!)

(In the background you can see the incubator with the next batch in it and the light box that someone lent us to candle the eggs with.)
